The Rumour/leak – Númenórean temple set & village incident

On one of the sound stages, there is a Númenórean temple set, one of the biggest set structures.

Discussion

·         Could this be a places of Morgoth worship established after Sauron has deluded Pharazôn, the Kingsmen and many people of Númenor into abandoning the worship of Eru Ilúvatar and following him into darkness. Season One is probably too early for the corruption of the Kingdom of Númenor to be portrayed. Maybe the set architecture has a temple-like façade as found in many European medieval and gothic buildings.

From Tolkien’s Lore

·         In Tolkien’s letter No. 153 to Peter Hastings, the Professor states that there was no temples in Númenor. On the flattened summit of Meneltarma, a sacred mountain in the center of Númenor, religious ceremonies occurred where Eru Ilúvatar was invoked, praised, and adored. However there was no permanent structure on the mountain. Sauron did built temples of worship to the cult of Morgoth after the Downfall. There isn’t much portrayal of religious ritual in the legendarium, apart from Faramir and his men turning and faced west in a moment of silence before a meal.

Scene involving the Númenórean army leaving Númenor along with the Queen and her consort. Pharazôn gives a speech and bids the army farewell. He remains in Númenor making sure Queen Miriel sails to Middle-earth. Pharazôn later has a confrontation with noblemen in the throne room.

Discussion

·         It is speculated that Pharazôn engineers Queen Miriel to be away in Middle-earth with the army fighting Sauron and his forces at this time so he can begin the destabilizing of her rule and establishment of his own growing power. The dispute in the throne room could be members of the dissident Kingsmen unhappy about Númenor sending military assistance to the Elves.

From Tolkien’s Lore

·         Míriel, the only child of Tar-Palantir, the twenty-fourth King of Númenor was by the Law of Succession, to become the fourth Ruling Queen of Númenor. Míriel's cousin Pharazôn took her unwillingly as his wife and seized the Sceptre of Númenor for himself, taking the title of King Ar-Pharazôn the Golden. Ar-Pharazôn himself, not Miriel, brought a mighty fleet to Middle-earth to challenge Sauron for dominion of the land. Taken as captive to Númenor, Sauron then began corrupting the King and other Númenoreans.

A hooded and robed figure rounds up a group of innocent people and leads them into a tent. There are said to be some potential sacrifice alongside a ritual.

Discussion

Could this be the village Tirharad the place where Bronwyn the apothecary and her son Theo live? Is the Adar the hooded and robed character? In the teaser trailer, we see the Elf Arondir leaping with a chain tethered to his ankle about to land in what looks like a tent. Is this related to this leak?

From Tolkien’s Lore

Tirharad is a non-canonical village set in Harad. Bronwyn, Theo and Arondir are all Amazon original characters.
