Ents in the Second Age – Ents in Rings of Power

“We Ents do not like being roused; and we never are roused unless it is clear to us that our trees and our lives are in great danger. That has not happened in this Forest since the wars of Sauron and the Men of the Sea.”

The Ents were sentient, humanoid beings created at the request of Yavanna to be Shepherds of the Trees, and to protect the forests from Orcs, Dwarves and other perils. The Ents were either souls sent to inhabit trees, or slowly took the likeness of trees owing to their inborn love of trees. Ents were the most ancient living creatures surviving in Middle-earth by the time of the War of the Ring.

Once there were Entwives too, but during the First or the Second Age they started to move away from the Ents because they liked to plant and care for small things like vegetables, grass and flowers, while the male Ents tended the larger trees of the great forest. The Entwives passed the River Anduin and went to the region that would later become the Brown Lands, and their gardens blossomed and they taught Men agriculture who honored them.

During the Second Age, these extensive forests were cut by the Númenóreans or destroyed in the calamitous War of the Elves and Sauron. Fangorn Forest was reduced to a small remnants of the original immense forest. The shrinking of the forest reinforced the separation of Ents from the Entwives. The gardens of the Entwives were destroyed by Sauron, and they disappeared. The Ents looked for the Entwives in vain and it is sung by the Ents that one day they will find each other but there is very scarce hope that they survived.

The second RoP teaser trailer depicted Ents or perhaps Huorns (It’s not clear if Huorns were Ents that had become tree-like, or trees that had become Entish). Some have suggested the trailer is showing a Entling, an Ent and an Entwife.

  TRoP - Harfoots Migration Route In episode 5 Nori tells us about the Harfoot migration route: “We winter in Old Forest, and mid-summer, we make for Norfield Glen to snail while the snailing is good. And at the first blush of oak leaves, we head to the Grove. A whole orchard, popping with bar apples, plums, apricots, carrots...” Old Forest – This can’t be the Old Forest in LotR where the Hobbits met Tom Bombadil. That is located northeast in Eriador. Nori may be referring to Greenwood the Great, later known as Mirkwood in the Third Age. Old Forest may have been were the Harfoots were eating snails in episode 3. Norfield Glen – Not shown on TRoP maps. Norfield Glen is probably somewhere in the northern part of the hilly region to the south of Greenwood. Weedbrook - a branch of the Anduin River.   The Rings of Power – ‘LeakyRumours’ Fellowship of Fans Meteor man was at Bronwyn’s village, Tirharad during one of the raids. A heavily emotional scene was said to have taken place. ·          This seems like a coming together of the meteor man/Harfoot story and the Bronwyn/Tirharad story arc ·          Does this mean Harfoots will be shown in the lands south of Gondor, Harad referenced in the name of the village ·          Is Tirharad the village we see Arondir, Bronwyn, Theo and Galadriel visiting? Is this the settlement later destroyed in a cataclysmic event?
