Rings of Power Pictographs & Runes
The production team at Rings of Power have included a number of Tolkien references with the use pictographs and runes, as seen in the second teaser trailer.
When Sadoc Burrows, Lenny Henry, is looking at a parchment in the teaser trailer, we see markings, possibly a star chart or sky notes, written in a script similar to the Goblin Alphabet used by the goblins of the North Pole in The Father Christmas Letters. These were also used in the ‘hands pictures’ on a scroll released in February.
We also see Durin IV, played by Owain Arthur, wearing a gorget,
a steel or leather collar to protect the throat, with rune inscriptions
displayed. The cirths read:
“…E A
th L E
S 🇸.” Referencing the Dwarven
title “Durin the Deathless”, founded the House of Durin and first King
of Durin's folk.
This is not written in the secret language of the Dwarves, Khuzdul.
