Prime Video, LotR, Rings of Power - LeakyRumour The Rumour/leak – Númenórean army (see below) Supposedly, Prime doesn’t have the rights to Unfinished Tales, but will we get to see the helms of the Uinendili? The Númenórean helmet, the karma, were of elaborate forms. Inscription on the back cover of some editions of Unfinished Tales “The cover design represents a Númenórean helmet (karma) and is taken from the original coloured drawing by J.R.R. Tollkien, which he entitled: ‘Helmet of a captain of the Uinendili, helm of overlapping plates of metal, the ‘fish-scale’ of leather embossed and coloured.’” “karma” is a Quenya word for "helm". Karma would probably be written carma, since Tolkien usually represented the [k]-sound with the letter "c".  Uinendili – Pronunciation: “uine’ndili” (ui as in English 'ruin') Name for the Guild of Venturers, a guild of mariners and seamen formed by the great Númenórean adventurer Aldarion in the year Second A...

Weapons of the Second Age: Rings of Power Some of the unique weapons of the Second Age of Middle-earth in Tolkien’s legendarium, which could play a vital role in the upcoming Rings of Power series: Aeglos The spear of Gil-galad, High-king of the Ñoldor. It was greatly feared by his enemies and Gil-galad wield the spear throughout the War of the Last Alliance We see this particular weapon for a brief moment in the prologue of the Fellowship of the Ring film. Aranrúth The cherished sword of King Thingol in the First Age. It was handed down to the generations that followed, including Elros, the brother of Elrond and the first King of Númenor, becoming an heirloom kept in the halls of the kings of Númenor. The sword was lost in the crushing waves that encompassed the Island. Aranrúth is only mentioned in text that Amazon does not currently have the rights to. Narsil Narsil, the most famous sword in Tolkien’s legendarium, created in the First Age by the Dwarven craftsmen...

Prime Video’s LotR Rings of Power – First look at Orcs “We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an Orc in the Second Age,” said Weber. “It felt appropriate that their look would be different, part of a wilder, more raw, Second Age, Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends. As we meet them, they're not yet organized into armies, they're a little more scattered and they've been scavenging. So it's just a different time in their total story.” Jamie Wilson, head of The Rings of Power’s prosthetic department IGN 22/6/22 The RoP Orcs have a very scary look and demeanor. It is great to see the use of practical effects and the application of excellent prosthetics to create a very earthy, gritty style of Orc, as opposed to the overly CGI look of the creatures in The Hobbit movies. It is also encouraging to see Tolkien lore implicit in these images. Orcs participated in battles such as the Dagor Aglareb, Dagor Bragollach, Nirnaeth Arnoediad...
Rings of Power promo video “You know the feeling of finally finding your own people. So do we. To all the fans who go deep, keep going. See where it takes you.” Music seems to take a lot of inspiration from the Rohan and Gondor themes from the Jackson movies. Very Howard Shore-eske. The music is quite uplifting! Seeing at Ent in the promo, does that imply Ents with be seen in RoP? In the Second Age the immense forests of Middle-earth were cut by the Númenóreans. The Ents were there to protect the forest from Orcs, Dwarves and other perils. So they may be depicted in the TV show. The child in the video is dressed very much like the Amazon original character Arondir. The video appeals to all of us who didn’t fit into the sport/music activities of school, but found escape and entertainment in reading Tolkien’s works. “To all the fans who go deep, keep going. See where it takes you.” – an appeal to the skeptical lore fans to trust the showrunners and accept the Amazon add...

Prime Video, Rings of Power: Interpretations of Tolkien’s Elves over the years “In the beginning the Elder Children of Iluvatar were stronger and greater than they have since become, but not more fair, for the beauty of the Quendi in the days of their youth was beyond all other beauty that Iluvatar has caused to be, it has not perished but lives in the West, and sorrow and Wisdom have enriched it.” The Silmarillion, ’Of the Coming of the Elves’ Payne(RoP Showrunner) added, "We had to ensure we were bringing something fresh to it (LotR) and expanding the map. We weren't interested in a sequel or prequel or a rehash or nostalgia. It had to stand on its own two feet as something that felt faithful--but also its own thing." Empire Magazine “Can we come up with the novel Tolkien never wrote and do it as the mega-event that could only happen now?” Vanity Fair Artwork: Ralp Bakshi, Rankin & Bass, Ted Nasmith, NewLine Cinema/WingNut Films, Prime Video

Prime Video Rings of Power – Lindon Dinner scene including Durin III, Elrond, Celebrimbor, Galadriel, Gil-Galad and possibly Miriel. Lindon was an area east of the Blue Mountains, situated north and south of the Gulf of Lune. During the Second Age, Ar-Pharazôn captured Sauron and took him to Númenor and there was peace in Middle-earth. The Elvish King Gil-galad was free to extend his power and influence so that the Elves of Lindon controlled most of the Westlands. With the destruction of Númenor, much of Lindon landmass was lost and Sauron returned to Middle-earth. Here the Elves built the Grey Havens, from where they would travel the Straight Road to the Undying Lands. As the King of Lindon, Gil-galad was the last heir of the kings of the Noldor in exile, and acknowledged as High King of the Elves of the West. The Noldor were those Elves who had travelled to Valinor but eventually forsook the Undying Lands and returned in exile to Middle-earth in pursuit of the stolen Silm...

How The Rings of Power adaptation is interpreting the look of early Hobbits, the Harfoots. “different but familiar.” ‘In creating this new story, McKay and Payne’s (showrunners) goal was, in McKay’s words, “different but familiar.” While the series is not a precise continuation of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings, it shouldn’t clash with the cinematic world fans have come to know and love.’ Vanity Fair Article Feb 2022 From The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, #27 “I picture a fairly human figure, not a kind of 'fairy' rabbit as some of my British reviewers seem to fancy: fattish in the stomach, shortish in the leg. A round, jovial face; ears only slightly pointed and 'elvish'; hair short and curling (brown). The feet from the ankles down, covered with brown hairy fur. Clothing: green velvet breeches; red or yellow waistcoat; brown or green jacket; gold (or brass) buttons; [and specifically for Bilbo, in The Hobbit] a dark green hood and cloak.” Artwork by:...

Prime Video Rings of Power - Snow Trolls There is some debate about whether or not snow trolls exist in Middle-earth. They are mentioned once in the books to describe the combative nature of a king of Rohan: “He (Helm Hammerhand) would go out by himself, clad in white, and stalk like a snow-troll into camps of the enemies, and slay many men with his hands.” LotR, FotR, Appendix A, "The House of Eorl" Helm Hammerhand - the ninth King of Rohan, renowned in the histories of Rohan.
