“Then all listened while Elrond in his clear voice spoke of Sauron and the Rings of Power, and their forging in the Second Age of the world long ago. A part of his tale was known to some there, but the full tale to none, and many eyes were turned to Elrond in fear and wonder as he told of the Elven-smiths of Eregion and their friendship with Moria, and their eagerness for knowledge, by which Sauron ensnared them. For in that time he was not yet evil to behold, and they received his aid and grew mighty in craft, whereas he learned all their secrets, and betrayed them, and forged secretly in the Mountain of Fire the One Ring to be their master.” The Fellowship of the Ring, The Council of Elrond

Galadriel & Finrod – The Rings of Power https://mtfringsofpower.blogspot.com/ Finrod was an Elven king of the Noldor, eldest son of Finarfin and brother to Galadriel. He devoted his whole life to his people, and was a very compassionate and successful king. Beren, seeking the Silmaril, enlisted Finrod's aid, but the two of them and their group were captured while passing the isle of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Sauron defeated Finrod in a contest of spells and songs, and their companions were slain one-by-one by werewolves. Finrod saved Beren's life by killing the werewolf that came for him, but in doing so, he died himself. "...They (Beren and Lúthien) buried the body of Felagund (Finrod) upon the hill-top of his own isle, and it was clean again; and the green grave of Finrod Finarfin's son, fairest of all the princes of the Elves, remained inviolate, until the land was changed and broken, and foundered under destroying seas. But Finrod walks with Finarfin his fathe...

Nimloth – The Rings of Power  Nimloth was the White Tree which grew in the King’s Court in Armenelos on the isle of Númenor. Nimloth was a gift from the Elves brought from Tol Eressëa, a large island off the coast of Aman as a symbol of friendship between the two races. This was a seedling of Celeborn, a White Tree that flourished on Tol Eressëa. The lineage of this tree extends back to Galathilion, a tree made by the Valar Yavanna for the Elves of the city of Tirion. Galathilion was made in memory of Telperion, the eldest of the Two Trees of Valinor. Nimloth’s blossoms appeared as the Sun set, and its perfume filled the night in Númenor's royal city Tar-Palantír, King of Númenor, tended the Tree and honored it, prophesized that when the Tree died, the line of Kings would fail. With the descent of Numenor in darkness, under the influence of Annatar/Sauron, Nimloth was cut down late in the Second Age and its wood was used to light the first flames in the fire of the new r...

Rings of Power, Tirharad in ‘The Southlands’ A short video has revealed the location of Tirharad, the village where Bronwyn lives with her son Theo depicted in a number of recently released images. Tirharad is located in The Southlands, what will become Mordor, within the three sided mountain range and close to the Sea of Núrnen or Lake Núrnen. Melkor created Mount Doom in the First Age and Sauron settled in Mordor around the year 1000 of the Second Age. Nurn was the name given to this southern regions of what becomes Mordor. At the time of the War of the Ring slaves from this region worked fields by the dark, sad water of Lake Núrnen to feed the armies of Sauron. Nurn means "sad" in Sindarin. So the villagers we see in the video are enjoying their peaceful existence pending the cataclysmic upheaval of Sauron’s destruction. In Tolkien lore, The South Lands or The Dark Land, refer to a continent that lay in south-east Arda, created by the geographic changes due to ...

Númenor – Rings of Power I hope we get to see the splendor of this gifted race, reveling in the blessing of a bountiful land and long life bequeathed as thanks by the Valar for their service. Then the slow fall of the shadow upon their civilization, the growing decay of pride and lust for power and greatness. The questioning the Gift of Men, hungering for immortality, succumbing to the corruption of Sauron and the resulting destruction.  “Thus the bliss of Westernesse became diminished; but still its might and splendour increased. For the kings and their people had not yet abandoned wisdom, and if they loved the Valar no longer at least they still feared them. They did not dare openly to break the Ban or to sail beyond the limits that had been appointed. Eastwards still they steered their tall ships. But the fear of death grew ever darker upon them, and they delayed it by all means that they could; and they began to build great houses for their dead, while their wise men...
